3 Years of Taxes Not Paid

The name is Lauryn Hill, and she is the latest to get busted for not paying taxes.

She is quite famous for her singing, rapping and acting but not paying of the big bill to Uncle Samuel.

New Jersey prosecutors made this claim on last Thursday (prior to June 7 - 2012), and the story has been discussed since then.

$1.6 million in income wasn't taxed.
For the year 2005 she, by court records, earned $818,000.

The next year 2006 brought in $222,000, and 2007 brought her $761,000.

She is only 37 years old and most likely can come up with the money somehow, but it is tuff when it gets to be that huge of an amount.

She got famous from being in the "Fugees".

Then "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" was a good solo album for her, and it won several Grammys.

She owns 4 corporations besides having the entertainment career. Lauren has earned money in the past few years.

The list of corporations is Boogie Tours, Creations Music, Studio 22 and L.H. Productions 2001.

Money that she gets from films and singing royalties are the bulk of her income.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Shipp will be thinking about her situation on June 29 at her court appearance. Check for further details on the case some time afterward her next appearance for what happened.

The problem could be that the one year prison sentence, and a $100,000 fine for each of the 3 charges could really stink.

I bet she gets off with financial penalties and payback of the money alone; we'll wait to see.

"I conveyed all of this when questioned as to why I did not file taxes during this time period,"

"Obviously, the danger I faced was not accepted as reasonable grounds for deferring my tax payments, as authorities, who despite being told all of this, still chose to pursue action against me, as opposed to finding an alternative solution."
